Interest in alternative labour plans have been increasing for many women over the
years due to the rising poor maternal outcomes. Low-middle income countries (LMICs)
like Pakistan experience poor maternal outcomes compared with other low-income countries.

In a recent study, it was put forward that between 2014 and 2018, Pakistan had a
maternal mortality rate 3 times that of 3 other countries (India, Kenya, and Zambia)
combined.
